Just Being Church in Adams County
My name is Marcia Meier and I am almost a native here in Colorado. I was born in Colby, Kansas and I spent summers on the family farm just north of Kansas City. I grew up in Southwest Denver and attended Denver Public Schools. I have degrees from the University of Northern Colorado, the University of Denver and the Iliff School of Theology. I am ordained in the Disciples of Christ (DOC) Christian Church and have dual standing as a pastor with the United Church of Christ (UCC). My husband and I have been together for over 40 years and we have 2 adult children who continue to bless the world with art and music.
I have always wanted to create a better world and I have been given lots of opportunities to do so. My latest invitation to serve two churches in Adams County at Henderson Community Church and Northglenn UCC, provides me the vocation to continue creating a better world.
The churches I serve are committed to not only gathering as communities of faith on Sunday mornings. They are also committed to feeding the hungry, giving shelter to the homeless, welcoming the stranger - being a church in the community for the whole community. I won’t pastor a church that just shows up on Sunday morning, a church that “does” Bible Study or “does” youth group. I want to lead a church that is “being” church in the community, in the world. We do gather and care for each other as a chosen family, as a community of faith, but we are also committed to just being church every day, every moment.
Together we can create a better world and we can share our understanding of the Divine with each other and with everyone we meet, every day. We continue to pray, worship, study and be together whenever we can. And I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my journey with my companions here in Adams County.
And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
